Tomorrow is Election Day, and I encourage you to make your voice be heard by remembering to vote.

My campaign for Assembly has been a wonderful experience, and I am beyond grateful for all of the support I have received. I enjoyed meeting and visiting with voters throughout the 25th district, and I am confident that my messages of tax reform, job creation, and local control have resonated.

I also would like to thank all of my volunteers and supporters who have given countless hours walking precincts, making phone calls, delivering yard signs, and attending meetings and events. Your help is appreciated more than words can say, and no matter the outcome tomorrow, I am honored to have you on my team. A special thanks to my husband, my children, and my whole family for their unconditional love, help, and support throughout the last five months.

The 25th District is a special place that I am proud to call home. Should I have the opportunity to be our voice in the State Assembly, I look forward to continuing to visit with constituents throughout the district and working to make our state government work for people again instead of for itself.

Thank you and God Bless.

California State Senate Democrats rolled out a $4.9 billion package of tax hikes this week. This proposal is outrageous considering the fact that California taxes are already out-of-control. We have the fourth highest income tax in the United States, the third worst business tax climate, and the highest sales tax in the nation.

As your Assembly member, I will fight against these intolerable tax hike proposals. I signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge early on because reducing the tax burden on families and small businesses is such a high priority to me. We must say NO to new taxes.

According to a state budget committee analysis, the Democratic 2010-11 plan includes:
– Suspending corporate tax breaks scheduled to begin Jan. 1 (worth $2.05 billion)
– Extending a 0.25 percent income tax surcharge that is scheduled to end Dec. 31. (worth $1 billion)
– Extending a $217 per dependent reduction in the state’s dependent income tax credit, also scheduled to end Dec. 31 (worth $430 million)
– Raising the vehicle-license fee from 1.15 percent to 1.50 percent of estimated value starting July 1 of this year (worth $1.2 billion)
– Increasing the state’s alcohol tax by an inflation-adjusted amount; these rates currently remain at 1991 levels (worth $210 million)

Modesto – The Mariposa Gazette has endorsed Modesto City Councilwoman Kristin Olsen for Assembly.

Yesterday’s edition of the Mariposa Gazette reads, “Kristin Olsen had demonstrated a high level of energy and understanding of the issues facing the State of California. Her experience and communication skills have earned her our endorsement.”

The Mariposa Gazette is California’s oldest newspaper and covers news in Mariposa County, one of the six counties included in the 25th District. The Gazette’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Modesto Bee’s endorsement, which stated that, “On the council, she (Kristin) has asked some of the toughest questions about finances.”

Kristin has a lifetime of commitment to the Central Valley and foothill communities. She was born and raised in Modesto where she is raising her family and now serving her second term on the City Council.

During her tenure on the Modesto City Council, Kristin has served as vice chair of the Finance Committee where she was known for careful scrutiny of spending and fiscal accountability to taxpayers. She now chairs the Economic Development Committee with a focus on job-creation opportunities and serves as a member of the Audit Committee.

After graduating magna cum laude from Westmont College, Kristin moved to Sacramento where she worked for former Senator Tim Leslie. She then spent five years working for the California Restaurant Association advocating for small business owners fighting excessive regulation and taxation. Kristin is currently the Assistant Vice-President for Communications & Public Affairs at California State University, Stanislaus.

Kristin was elected to the City Council in 2005 when she beat an incumbent. Last November she was re-elected with a margin of more than 30 points. She attends Big Valley Grace Community Church with her husband Rod and three children.

MODESTO — Modesto City Councilwoman and Republican Assembly candidate Kristin Olsen has received the endorsement of the California Small Business Association (CSBA), Olsen’s campaign announced today.

In a letter to Kristin dated May 6, CSBA President Betty Jo Toccoli wrote, “We believe your commitment to the future of small business is deserving of the support from our organization and you will do a great job representing us effectively in your area.”

The California Small Business Association represents over 203,000 California small business owners. CSBA is a grassroots, non-partisan, small business advocacy organization founded by the 1980 California small business delegates to the White House Conference on Small Business. Its mission is to provide a voice for small business and stimulate the creation of jobs and the economy of California.

“The current legislature has suffocated California’s small businesses,” said Olsen. “As an Assemblymember, I intend to alleviate the pressures that our small businesses face like excessive taxation and regulations. The strength of our economy depends on the strength of small business. I appreciate the CSBA’s support of my candidacy.”

Kristin has a lifetime of commitment to the Central Valley and foothill communities. She was born and raised in Modesto where she is raising her family and now serving her second term on the City Council.

Modesto – Continuing to gain momentum as her campaign enters the final stretch before Primary Election Day, Kristin Olsen has received the endorsement of former Stanislaus County Supervisor Ray Simon, Olsen’s campaign announced today.

“Kristin Olsen is the person we need representing us at the state level,” said Simon. “I have seen Kristin in action protecting Modesto taxpayers, and I know she will work just as hard in Sacramento. Kristin is an effective leader who will tighten the purse strings and stay true to her core principles through even the toughest resistance from other interests.”

Ray Simon first dedicated himself to public service in the Modesto community in 1964 when he served as a Modesto City Planning Commissioner, followed by terms as City Councilman and Vice Mayor. Simon was elected to the Stanislaus County Board of Supervisors in 1974, where he served for over three decades (1974-2006). Simon’s service in the business community included time as Director for Modesto Banking Company, Modesto Commerce Bank, Stanislaus Surgical Hospital, and the Save Mart Cares Foundation. Currently, he remains President of Pegasus Risk Management in Modesto.

“I am honored to have the support of Ray Simon, whose work in the community has made Stanislaus County a better place to live and work,” said Olsen. “My campaign continues to move full steam ahead and it is great to have Ray on board.”

Kristin has a lifetime of commitment to the Central Valley and foothill communities. She was born and raised in Modesto where she is raising her family and now serving her second term on the City Council.
